Bubble Bobble Wedding Cake

Detail shots of the CUTEST wedding cake ever. The Bubble Bobble Wedding Cake was themed around a video game, and it was ridiculously adorable.
As you may have guessed by now... I LOVES me a geeky bride!
Michelle, the bride who ordered the cake I'm posting about today, is pretty much a perfect representation of what kind of bride I love to work with:
Identified geeky in the first email (which was also well written, polite, and had great grammar and spelling - FTW!), didn't take anything too seriously - no bridezilla moments at all! - gave me ultimate reign over the final design, and wanted her wedding cake themed around an old school NES / Taito game
Oh yeah.
She also held her real wedding in Vegas, getting married by an impersonator.
Not any tired old Elvis impersonator (which, in my mind, would still be kind of awesome to do!).. no. She got married by a "Bishop" impersonator from the Princess Bride. Yes, her "mawwige" was "wut bwings us togedder"! Awesome!
Check out the cake:
The addition of an external rainbow apparatus was what had me extra excited for this one. Aside from the wings on the Klingon Bird of Prey cake, I can't recall ever incorporating such an accessory on a cake.
My husband built it for me out of plywood and shelving brackets, and I completely covered it with fondant. I think it really pulled the design together and made it extra special!
By the way, the father of the bride here wins for best FOB quote ever.
Right before the bride, groom, and parents saw the cake, I mentioned to them that I'd been crawling out of my skin for HOURS, dying to post photos of it - which I deemed to be "nauseatingly cute".
The father looked at it (loved it!), and said - I quote - "That IS nauseatingly cute. I feel all fluffy and stuff. I think I need to go club a seal or something!".
I can honestly say that it's the first time I've ended up discussing the seal hunt on a wedding delivery!
ANYWAY, I am off to enjoy my Sunday, and I hope you all are having a great weekend!
Be forewarned: I won't be blogging much in the next few weeks, and it's crunch time for "Evil Cake Overlord".
I have to buckle down and get cookbook #2 completed. Expect many random Tweets from me, as I try to beat my ADD into submission again!
